Re: spend or scrooge this xmas

im glad ive no kids theyd get nothing.

but yeah kids dont want toys or board games now id settle for board games toys anyday.

kids now would want very dear stuff they should get a paper round when old enough and save up for things they want.
its not right going into debt they ll be paying it off for a whole year..

The way I look at it the thought that counts not how much a gift costs

Re: spend or scrooge this xmas

I never spent a single penny last year and I won't be this year either. I once got into catalogue debt for 9 months buying the latest play station for my sons who had broke it long before I had finished paying for it. Now everyone is grown up with lives and families of their own and I won't do it, not even for my two grandsons. I believe I show my love for my family and buy them treats all year round so quite why I should feel that I have to go over board financially at Xmas just to prove what I already have proved all year long to my family is beyond me. They know I love them and I will make it the usual close family gathering and happily shared meal and time together that it always is but without the gifts and silliness. I do get annoyed with people who intrude on other people at Xmas, asking you in every shop if your ready for Xmas, it's just one day how ready do I have to be? And I never believed in lying to my children so never taught them that Santa was real, gifts have to be bought with heard earned money there's no magic man going to give them everything they wish for. When other people started asking them what Santa was bringing it was deeply offensive and against my wishes and teachings. Mostly my pet hate is having to say I do not celebrate Xmas when pressed by people asking about it and to have some ask if I am a Jahovas witness, or simply call me miserable as I have never wallowed in self pity a day in my life and make every effort to make the time my family spends together as joyful as possible and as a result we are all very close. It's high time people stood up to the masses and were able to say freely that they either do or do not want to take part in Xmas and take part as much or as little as they want to as it should be about freedom of choice and not enforced upon us by people who seem to think I have to so everyone else has to as well.

We always spend way too much and every year we say next year we won't go mad .... next year comes ...... same thing happens

My son has asked for an X-box one this year that's the best part of £400 gone in the blink of an eye

Oh well you cant take it with you when you go so you may as well enjoy it while you can !!!!!!

There's also the inexpensive gag gift route. One of my housemates guzzles down soda as if it were water so last year I got him a case of Dr Pepper (his favorite) and I put it in the largest box I could find so that it would look like his present was the biggest one under the Christmas tree.

If you shop around you can find presents much cheaper in places like Home Bargains or B & M

Tickets to see a show (westend if you are near london) but there are lots of good shows that are on all around the country - I recently took my wife to see dirty dancing in Milton Keynes and it was brilliant and i have tickets for Sister act in northampton this month
