its a wonder they aint been done away with and replaced when u think of todays technology

Is it the fact that the traffic is more important to be moving rather than waiting on both sides for people to cross the road

Why is it on pelican crossings, that have an island in the middle of the road, the green man light only gets you to the island & another one gets you the rest of the way to the other side of the road?

Why not one green man that gets you all the way accross?

Birmingham City Highways Department answered thus:

"Well like (Brummie accent lol) it's incase like, someone gets halfway accross the road and changes their mind like"

This was the actual reply from Birmingham Highways official lol

WTF? You look across the road from the island & think:

"I don't like it over there so I'm going back to the side of the road I started from" lol
