    Re: Embarressing Moments

When I left drama school in the early nineties, I wrote to an actor who lived quite near me. I asked whether I could help him with the youth drama group he ran. He had been quite a famous actor in the 70s and was once again on TV regularly in the 90s. And I was a bit of a fan.

Within about a week, the phone rang one evening. The caller said who he was, thanked me for writing to him, and said he'd like to talk to me about helping with the group. Unfortunately, his voice sounded exactly like a friend of mine who enjoyed playing practical jokes on me. So I said, "Ha ha, OK, you're sussed. I know it's you Paul." The actor calling me said, "No, you wrote me a letter. I was just responding..." I laughed and said, "It's OK, you can stop now. I know you're winding me up."

Taking a deep breath, the poor guy read out a bit of the letter and I realised it really was him! I apologised profusely and said I had a friend who used to ring me up and pretend to be someone else.

I've never forgotten the excruciating awkwardness I felt.

I went on to work with the guy for a long time and about ten years later, I reminded him of the incident. He didn't remember it. So it obviously had a bigger impact on me than it did on him. Thanks goodness.

    Embarrassing Moments

A couple of weeks ago I was walking up a path. There were hedges all along the way, and a tree line going off into the distance.
There was no-one around as I strode my merry way, so I let off a gigantic beer burp of monumental proportions. Why not?
Except that the moment I did, I passed the tree-line and on the other side there was a funeral going on. This is not a gag, this actually happened.
I'm sure I saw one lady giggling, but I shielded my face from the rest of proceedings as I hurried past. Very embarressing.
    Any stories like this?
