Not as good as previous years. It is pretty dumb to remove the whistle from the story and making his wife the ghost removed much of the suspense.
I liked the Mark Gatiss stories better which were on last year I think. There have also been various versions of M R James stories over the years without famous people. I wish they would collect them together on DVD. I know that the 1968 version is available on DVD.
It was pretty spooky, and the wife element was either clever or not-so.
When she said, "Im still here" did she mean conciousness despite her demented form, or that her disembodied spirit was by the sea where she remembered?
Was she dead at the end? If so, why torment a devoted husband?
A classy production, and a great performance from John Hurt, but not a patch on the b/l original.
