  • Phoenix

Popular arcade game from the early 80's. This game was designed in Phoenix, Arizona in the U.S. and Taito in Japan and was sold by Atari in 1982 for the Atari console. The game was like many of the games of that ere, a space theme where you had to shoot thru a barrier in a space ship to kill the alien in the middle! It was very similar to the popular game 'Space Invader'.

I lost many many hours to this game. Trying to time your shots to go through the rotating belt on the ship isn't as easy as it looks.

Phoenix was a fave of mine back in the day and I had the Atari 2600 conversion, too (cost me flippin' £30 from John Menzies at a time when most home computer games were no more than a fiver!) but in the end I preferred another shooter that's not as well remembered - Space Firebird.
