  • Roy of the Rovers

Although Roy and Melchester Rovers had been going since the 50's or 60's, I started reading in the 80's and looked forward to other stories such as Billy's Boots, Goalkeeper and Hot shot Hamish and Mighty Mouse. Major story lines for Roy in the 80's were a crash which wiped out half the team, the disappearance of Roy Jnr and the 'earthquake' at their home ground which forced them to play their home games at Wembley! Although things turned bad in the 90's for Roy with the helicopter crash leading to the amputation of his famous left foot and the eventual closure of the comic itself. The 70's and 80's were the golden time for Roy Race. Forever Roy of the Rovers.
