A Boy Called David was a QED documentary about a boy with Tourettes Syndrome. By the next day everyone at school was shouting "Get the f*****g Nescafe". If a teacher caught you swearing, you'd just say you'd got Tourettes.

There was a documentary about a boy who had Tourettes but I am afraid your memory is at fault with it's title !!
It was called John's Not Mad and was indeed a QED film from 1989 and it did have the described effects on schoolboys of a certain age !

However, the documentary A Boy Called David was the start of a series of documentaries by Desmond Wilcox telling the story of a baby boy left in the jungle to die because he was born with a disease that ate away his face. Mr Wilcox followed the boy through 28 years of his life, creating documentaries of each step in the journey of reconstructing his face and the final outcome of his acceptance by his native villagers. Though David returned to the Amazon to visit, he did not stay there as he had been adopted by the Scottish plastic surgeon who had done the incredible job of recreating his face.

Now coming up to 30 years old, David is re-training as a graphic artist and also pursues his talents as a painter.

i remember both of those programmes mentioned above.........'john's not mad' i have watched several times as its on dvd and the 'boy called david' was a very touching series of programmes .......fascinating to watch
