I was about 3 or 4 when Baby Heather came out and I had gotten her for Christmas and when we opened the box, her head was at the bottom! It took my parents four attempts to get the stupid doll out! I'm 22 and only just got rid of her in October and that was only because I didn't have the room to keep her. I've yet to find a doll like her... we would bring her to the food store and people would think she was real! Ah the memories...Baby Heather was pretty expensive for her day, due to the elaborate electronics built into her body. Her settings could be altered so that would act as either a newborn, 6 months old or a toddler and her behaviour would change to match the age. When she was set to her older age Baby Heather could communicate by talking. She could say things like "tickle me mommy", "not sleepy, play with me" and "up mommy, up".Reports are that Baby Heather was often troubled by a mechanical default. Either the doll would fail to shut down properly or she had problem's with her neck. It has even been suggested her head often broke off! This might explain why Mattel only manufactured Baby Heather for one year back in 1987.Baby Heather was available in both Caucasian and African American versions.
