The Hula Hoop (also sometimes known as the 'Hoola Hoop') was a plastic ring that you would put over your body and spin it and try to keep it spinning over your body by moving your body in a circular motion. It was rather hard until you got the hang of it. It was a classic.Nobody really knows where the Hula Hoop originates from, children have played with Hula Hoops for hundreds of years. The average Hula Hoop measures around 28 inches in diamater and are most likely to be made of hollow plastic tubing. Legend has it that the ancient Greeks used the hula hoops as a form of excercise!The Hula Hoop as we know it today was reinvented by Richard Knerr and Arthur "Spud" Melin, the founders of the Wham-O toy company. These two were also responsible for the reinvention of the slingshot and later, the Frisbee. Knerr's and Melin's Hula Hoop was released in 1958 and sold a staggering 25 million in the first four months and oer 100 million in the first year.
