Lego began life as a private company in Denmark back in the 1940s but since then it has developed into one of the biggest toy brands and thanks to its constant reinvention is still going strong.Lego original began as basic interlocking plastic bricks in different shapes and sizes. Lego bricks have always been able to be locked together allowing the user to create their own objects. The beauty of Lego is that once you've completed a project you can simply take it all apart again and build something else. The flexibility of Lego designing has led to pleny of artists and enthusiasts creating their own unique large-scale lego projects and there are even four different Lego theme parks in Denmark, the UK, the US and Germany. The original Lego bricks were made of wood and had several studs on the top and a hollow bottom but the bricks evolved with the design becoming more complex and varied. Soon different components were available including axles, wheels and tiny characteristic figures. Now basic Lego sets are less popular and the Lego Group have found a niche in developing themed play sets. Custom sets and Lego figures can now be found to tie-in with popular films such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter. Lego have also branched into video games.
