They were made out of quilted suede-like/leather material and the rubbery heel height varied anywhere from 1 inch to up to (possibly) 3 inches if memory serves me. They were popular with hippies in the 70s and demonstrators needing comfy footwear for lengthy protests. They were developed originally by Anne Halso, a yoga teacher, in 1957. The first Earth Shoes were sold in Germany, then the fashion travelled to the US.
