Breyer Horses first came about in the 50s when a model horse was made to adorn a mantelpiece clock. Requests flooded in from people wanting a horse for themselves. The model horses have become very popular, and now the company manufactures resin, porcelain and plastic model horse for ornamental purposes and for play. Around five million are made each year, and each horse is manually crafted by around 20 different artisans. There are no machines involved.
