The snakeboard was invented in 1989 by James Fisher and Oliver Macloed Smith. Its creation came about as a progression from the original skateboard design, taking in aspects of snowboards and surfboards. The difference between a snakeboard and a skateboard is the snakeboard has a central board with two extra foot pieces attached on pivots. Feet are usually attached to the snakeboard with bindings, since there is much more movement involved than on a skateboard - as well as more likelihood of injury. The movement itself resembles the smooth curved angles that a snake makes (hence the name).
