The French Knitting doll has always been a girls' favourite. They are also known as Knitting Nancys, Bizzy Lizzys, knitting mushrooms, knitting spools, corkers, peg knitters, knitting nobbys (or knitting noddys) or knitting knobbys. There were so many different names for these depending on the makerOften presented as a wooden cotton bobbin with 4 nails in the top. These are still as popular today in many different designs but the principle is still the same.

I had one, although I can't remember how you do it now. It seemed a bit pointless though as you just made a long snakey tube of wool that you couldn't really do anything with.

I don't think we had a name for the thing that we used. We just called it French Knitting.

I had one of these. It had about ten prongs and was about four inches across, made of red plastic.
I got bored with it quite quickly when I got it, when I was about ten.
