Chaka Khan was born Yvette Marie Stevens on the 23rd March 1953 in Chicago, Illinois.She first burst onto the music scene with the band 'Rufus' (later known as Rufus featuring Chaka Khan) in 1973 with Singles "Whoever's Thrilling You" & "Feel Good". They toured extensively in 1974 with acts such as The Rolling Stones and Earth, Wind and Fire which sent audiences wild.In 1978 Chaka released her first solo album ' Chaka' which included the world famous track 'I'm Every Woman' and was one of the first women artist to record a music video. Chaka went on to work with many influential artists including The Jackson 5, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Steve Winwood, Prince, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, George Benson & Robert Palmer to name a few.In 1995, Chaka tried her hand at acting and starred in the West End Production 'Mama, I Want To Sing' then again in 2002 in the critically acclaimed musical 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered' based on the music of Stevie Wonder. In 1999, the Chaka Khan Foundation was established, this is an organisation to assist women and children at risk of domestic violence, substance abuse and runs an arts program for at-risk youths.
