  • Alphabet Zoo

Alphabet Zoo was a folksy, ITV series (Granada) for the youngun's of the day.It was broadcast as ten minute programmes for two series in 1983 and 1984. Presented by the clean cut and ever friendly face of Ralph McTell and sometimes the actress nerys hughes. You'll never guess this but... each episode is dedicated to a letter of the alphabet. As is the way of things on TV, the format was revived - this time by ITV Carlton on the (familiar sounding series...) Alphabet Castle - which ran from September 1993 to December 1995 - presumably until they reached the letter Z.

I remember this, though I was a teensy bit old for it. Nerys Hughes always got on my nerves and I always got Ralph McTell mixed up with that Don the Australian bloke who used to sing with guitar as well on things.
