' was the name of the aforementioned Mel Smith & Kim Wilde (or Mel & Kim) single from '87. I still like that song, especially that version.

Also in the '80s, Spitting Image made a song called 'The Christmas Singles' which took the rise out of typical Christmas Songs and had a chorus which asked for 'no more Christmas Singles', although it didn't sell as well as 'The Chicken Song'.

How many of these do you remember? Funny festive songs that were usually only popular for a single Christmas and then forgotten.
Two from the '80s that I recall were Mel Smith & Griff Rhys-Jones with Kim Wilde, doing a version of Connie Francis's 'Christmas Party Hop' which I think may have been done to raise money for Comic Relief. Also Spitting Images' 'Hello Ronnie, Hello Gorby', released c.1986 in the early days of Glasnost, which had the puppets of Reagan and Gorbachev pondering in melancholy tones where the easing of the Cold War would leave their superpower status- that was a laugh!

And does anybody recall one that came out in the late '70s, which featured a TV news reporter interviewing Father Christmas? Santa sets out on a motorbike to do his rounds instead of his usual sleigh, but has a crash and is whisked off to hospital to be made into 'the world's first bionic Santa'. The record used clips from hits that were around at the time to provide Santa's replies to the newsman. I think it came out in Christmas '78- ring any bells??
