    Re: Sega megadrives!!

Desert and Jungle Strike were superb for their time, used to stay up all night playing those two, also Ghouls and Ghosts was very playable.

The megadrive was my favourite console ever - still play it from time to time! No other game has ever topped Sonic (Sonic 2 is the best) in my opinion. I've got the Sonic compilation for the PS2 but nothing quite beats playing it on the megadrive.

I had James Pond:Robocod too - was one of my favourites, as was Toki ("Go ape spit!") but nobody else ever seems to remember that one!

i had a master system then a megadrive. My faves were Alien 3, Speedball and Robocop vs Terminator. There's a megadrive compilation with over 40 games on coming out in February for the X box 360.

I never owned a megadrive, I was more of a nintendo person. But we did a megadrive in school, the games we had were Sonic 1, Kid Chameleon and Olympic Gold 92. On occasions, one student brought in Michael Jackson's Moonwalker, it was great.

I'm with Wispa Lover on this one in that I was always more of a Nintendo fan and preferred the SNES over the Megadrive. However a great deal of my friends had a Megadrive, one of which had a cartridge with around five different games on it such as Shinobi, Streets of Rage and Italia 1990. We were both massive Streets of Rage fans so we were never off the thing, happy days!

                  Re: Sega megadrives!!

EA produced great games, Sonic was a breath of fresh air at the time. So fast along side Mario, Sonic 2. How about Toe Jam and Earl? NBA Jam? So many good games, but what about the add-ons?

32-X, Mega-CD, Activator, the Menacer (the SEGA version of the SNES Super Scope )

Then there were the various versions of the console. MegaDrive, MegaDrive2 ( smaller, sleeker, sexier ) MegaCD, MegaCD2 and the gorgeous MultiMega combined MegaDrive/MegaCD, that was also a Discman.

It was fab mine still gets used all the time and when I don't use it it lives in it's original packaging.

Best CD game ever was SONIC CD, different class altogether

I still have my sega megadrive connected to my tv.
It was a brilliant format, you just put the cartridge in the slot switched it on and away you went.

Yes, I had a megadrive as well and had Sonic 1,2 & 3 + Alladin, Desert Strike, Chuck rock (which I always found nearly unplayable), Virtua racing and I must of had some more but can't remember. I must dig them out.
I then went on to a Sega Saturn system, did anyone have one of those as well?
That was the last console I bought, apart from this xmas and have finally got round to getting the kids a wii.

                          Re: Sega megadrives!!

I never had a Saturn but I've played it a bit. I've got a Mega Drive and a Dreamcast so I'm sure there'll come a time when I hanker after one but I'm finding myself hankering after '80s computers more than consoles now. It's probably nostalgia, more than anything but I do like those times when a single person could come out with a hit rather than having to have a massive company behind them. It was always going to happen but once big business and Windows & the PC came to dominate the computer a lot of the heart went out of it.

I never had a Saturn, but i had all the sonic games for the mega drive. I picked up Ecco the dolphin game, although I had heard alot about it and at the time people raved about it I could never play it. What was the point?

                              Re: Sega megadrives!!

I never had a Saturn either but it did have some cracking games, Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers, Burning Rangers, Nights, Virtua Cop and Fighters Megamix to name a few. I was (and still am despite never being exactly great at them) a huge fan of Capcom's beat em' ups and owned a good few on PS1, most were also available on the Saturn and usually looked much better from what I heard. An example was Marvel Super Heroes (1997), this came out at the height of my love for all things Marvel comics and being a fan of Capcom's fighters in general I couldn't wait to pick it up on PS1.

In short it was a great game but I always remember several magazines saying that the Saturn did the game's arcade transfer much more justice, almost an identical port.

Don't suppose anyone remembers a story from around 1997 regarding the Saturn version of platformer Croc? Players would pop the game in and start it up, only for Croc's body to be missing a head! I think the solution was to start the game with the disc cover open or something and then to close it after a minute or two, all very strange indeed.

Never heard of the Saturn Croc problem but I did have Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighting Vipers, Vipers was best. My other fave Saturn games were Wipeout and the original Tomb Raider (they didn't bother making TR2 for Saturn as by then I think it was on it's way out).
