Can someone help me remember the name of the game?

I played this game, similar to Mario, only you were like this little army guy, and you had an enemy who would send people out to attack you. You had to go through different levels, and at the last level when you met the big guy, he was in this floating aircraft and would shoot down at you. All I remember was you would be this guy and shoot at the things that attacked you. The graphics were similar to the original Mario, and there were a lot of lights going on, kind of like you were in a city.

Any memories spring to mind?

I ADORED Commando...but it left my thumb in agony every time I played it in the arcades

I tried it on a PS2 compilation, and couldn't stomach the way it was designed to make you die to put more coins in. Wish I had got the old 8 bit conversion in the 80s.

There is a modern update on the Xbox Live Arcade - tried it on a demo disc - much mayhem.
Would love a remake of Ikari Warriors.
