What was the game called

I used to play a space ship game in the arcades in the early eighties. It was a ship flying from left to the right of the screen. When you shot the enemy boost up items appeared plus other items like adding another gun. This would give you a gun at the top of the ship, then the next would go below etc, I think you get the picture and you could turn the gun to a laser beam etc and at the end you had to fight a fire dragon that went round and round.

As any one got any idea what it was called?

R-Type from Irem. There are a lot of knock off versions, and let's face it, it is Defender with knobs on, but it is widely regarded as the daddy.

If it's not Salamander or R-Type then it I was thinking Nemesis/Gradius?



Sounds the most likely for a vertical scrolling shoot-em-up with pickups.
