80s-90s game- elves? berries? trees?

Hi all i was hoping someone would be able to tell me the name of this game. It has been bugging me for ages now as i cant remember the name or even the game play properly. I used to play it in the mid 80s-early90s..

the description as i remember it:
i think you played as a small elf (or possibly childlike) character. from memory you could choose between a girl or a boy and you had to jump around and climb trees (some really tall) to collect berries of different types. The berries were lives and points from memory.

There was possibly something about collecting a key but i dont really know... basically a game where you climbed around collecting berries.

hope someone knows what game i am talking about.

sounds like a game called zelda. but that was out mid ninties?!?!?
