Plastic cycle, maybe French?

I just remembered our French teacher at school having a plastic cycle. It was a full size adult cycle with maybe 26 or 27 inch wheels.

It was beige and cream coloured and was completely plastic including the large spoked wheels.

I kind of remember someone saying it was from France, has anyone else heard or seen anything like this?

Yes, early 80's. They had them on sale (briefly?) in Selfridges in London, where I was at the time.
All plastic, three-speed rear hub gears.

I was not impressed as they only appeared to have one brake, only to be told about the rear wheel back-pedal hub brake, which I'd never met before, (and only once again, on a hire-bike in Australia about ten years later).

What a dreadful design, you can imagine how much stick the teacher who rode it to school got every day?!?!?
