The build quality of newer parts is probably just as good as that from decades ago but there is less flexibility with many recent parts when you want to build your own models with them compared to those in lego sets from the 1980s and 90s.

Ive not seen modern lego but i can imagine its not as good as old lego.

lego lasts forever but i'm somewhat dismayed that most themes are now licensed products. Does lego not sell if it's generic? Another criticism i have is that some more recent lego sets have models that use a small number of very custom parts that are difficult to use for anything else. Imo that defeats the point of lego. Bring back aquazone, paradisa, and space themes.

I love Technic and still play with it today but I prefer the educational / Dacta sets more than the 'consumer' sets.

Me & my brother really like the Space Lego in the 1980s.

I moved more into Technical than he did & had some great sets.

Loved the Lego space themes back in the 80s, damn they were expensive though. Ended up getting MB Robotix sets instead as a kid instead probably due to price.

It seems as if after legos patents expired they just expanded to try and take the market, I know a bloke who spends thousands a year on collecting the new sets, Star Wars, Spongebob, whatever. I wonder what part of their business is sales to kids and what part is sales to adults nowadays

Things now are not built to last at all. Regarding toys.

this is a good question. I'm concerned about the declining build quality of products in recent years will mean that large numbers of them will not survive in the future.

There is a thriving 8-bit computer nostalgia scene because the build quality of most 8-bits was so high that they will last a long time. I can't say that many modern laptops will be working in 30 years time.

Yeah love the vintage toys. I do however panic at the thoughof the kids going in to school and telling their teacher they've been playing 'Pass the Nuts' and 'Chase the Cheese' haha.

I cannot believe how many Star Wars toys they've released this week. Theres no chance a kid could own a complete collection nowadays. I think me and my bro got to about 75% of the Palitoy stuff back in 79-80-81-82-83 getting different figures and vehicles every Xmas and birthday. They seem to overlicence everything now, the amount of Minions and Frozen tat in Poundland alone is crazy.

Night Garden is probably a good call, the original Magic Roundabout toys from my childhood seem to fetch a hell of a price online nowadays.

There is a thriving 8-bit computer nostalgia scene because the build quality of most 8-bits was so high that they will last a long time. I can't say that many modern laptops will be working in 30 years time.

The Disney films in recent years will be remembered, like the ones on the past. I wonder how long they can keep the Princess line going for?

I'm sure some of the better TV shows like Adventure Time will be fondly remembered, I got into it after some younger friends recommended it.

It will be interesting to see if my cousins' children will be recalling things like The Night Garden by then, & complaining about their parents getting rid of their toys when they outgrew them!

I think the new star wars toys will be nostalgia to kids of today as the original star wars collectables where to us mate.

Its kinda cool ur kids like the snes and stuff like that thats sort of two generations ur kids and you.

my need to relive the 1970s and 1980s has been sort of replaced the past year or so by thinking that i'm much more likely to be nostalgic in my 'twilight years' for 2015, as my son is almost 3 now and my daughter is almost 5 and i'm gonna be hella fond of their childhood. While they have their own vintage likes in my own collections - my son is mad for out vintage fisher price and tomy stuff, and plays all day with his little 80s star wars figures - and my daughter adores snes mario kart and bomberman - they'll surely remember their own favourite toys as we do ours.

What do you think the nostalgia of 2040 will be? Imaginext is an awesome range of boys toys including power rangers and superheroes lines, and i think my daughter will be obsessively rebuying sofia the first collectibles if she's inherited the collecting gene!
