What are these toys

I recently went through all my toys from childhood and came across a group of toys which were small people, women mostly, (approx 1inch tall) each in a different countries dress. so far i have found a carribbean, russian and african woman. i am totally stuck for what they are called because they are all missing their boxes.
I'd appreciate any help as it's driving me nuts

are these what you mean - bisque penny dolls they range form an inch to 5 inches tall.

no there's not so much definition to their bodies when i can i'll post a pic.

are you sure that it isn't a McDonalds happy meal toy. Seems like I remember them giving away something to that effect.
