  • Star Rider!

Okay, I am posting this, because I cannot believe that I cannot find anything about this little beauty on the internet, apart from this pic taken from the 1981 Sears catalogue on Wishbook.com!

When you turn the handlebars, you spin the whole thing around - and believe me, you could get it going at quite a clip. The catalogue lists it at $49, but over here, I'm pretty sure it was £99+. It made all sorts of noises, and was rather solidly built too. Unfortunately, the picture isn't good enough for me to check out the controls.

So here's the challenge - anyone else got memories of this thing?

Thats bizarre! Looks like some hybrid Darth Vader, incorporating fire extinguishers and a Sinclair C5! Arf!! Bet the kid looked WELL hacked off under that helmet!

Thankfully, the suit wasn't a part of it. Just looking at the controls again - you could rise the engine note with one of the levers in the middle - I had forgotten that because I was confusing that with my Star Bird Avenger - which I do still have!

                Re: Star Rider!

I had one of these here in the states. It retailed at toys r us for about 100 u.s.

I had always begged my parents for a sit and spin and never got one. When I saw the ad for this (essentially a sit and spin with a video game built in) I begged and begged until I got it for christmas.

It did spin pretty fast, but the video game part was kind of lame.basically a color transparency of outer space on the screen with little LED enemies.

I eventually used it as a model for a time machine for the science fair. Have no idea where it went after that. I would buy one now if I could find it, just for old time's sake.

This is the only post I have seen anywhere on the net.

Thanks for the pic and the memory.

I still have mine. The lamp for the phaser is burned out, but otherwise, it's still kickin'......well, spinning.

Am I remembering rightly that the 'explosion' sound was just 'pffft'?
