  • What was this toy called?

One of our contributors has written in with a memory but does not remember the name of the toy. She thinks it may have been "Better Builder" but I need confirmation of the name before I put this up on the website. Does anyone know what this toy was called?

"A cheaper version of lego with little white bricks and small squares of plastic that you clicked together to make "slate" roofs. Although Lego took over the universe personally I preferred this as the small bricks enabled you to make more detailed models. I remmember seeing a model in Woolworths of Big Ben that was about 8 foot tall. Although I never managed anything needing so many bricks I did build a cathedral."

Yes it was called Betta builder and it was made by Airfix. I put some on ebay under lego and got so many people emailing me to tell me that it was Betta builder. I used to play with it all the time, the tiles in my set were green. It used to fit onto lego but was a little wobbly.

      Thanks for the information.

As a follow-up someone has now written about Betta Builder on the main website:

Better Builder, I haven't heard that in years. Yes, I think I had my moments of greatness with it . . .

I was always a lego person. My dad and I would spend hours building the castle and midevil sets. We have a huge plywood board with a castle that reaches about 4 feet high at the tallest points. Its pretty sweet.
