      Re: Holly Aird

If you ever get to see 15-The Life & Death of Phillip Knight I am sure you would love the part she plays. It is an obscure film though, which went straight to video.

Karen Painter, played by Holly is a social worker who is assigned to Phillip Knight (Daniel Newman) who is a troubled adolescent who she tries to foster out & eventually find a family to adopt him. I actually identify with Daniel Newman's character Phillip Knight as I had rather a similar childhood

Philip is placed with numerous foster parents & adolescent residential homes, all who can not cope with him & his complex needs. So Phillip never finds a real home & is thus insecure & runs away repeatedly.

Whilst under Karen's (Holly's) care he blossoms and responds to Karen's support. She brings out his talent as a very talented artist & spends far more time with him than her other clients

Towards the end of the film he is up in court & is remanded to HMP Swansea. The magistrate could not, due to his history, grant him bail. Even the magistrate was reluctant to remand Philip but he did say if suitable accomodation was found for Philip he would grant immediate bail for Philip. Karen desperately tries to find Philip a place in a residential unit to take him out of the prison estate as prison is effecting him to his detriment

She even phones residential units that Phillip has run away from but they refuse outright as his complex needs are too intense he would be a problem to the other kids there.

As hard as Holly ties she gets nowhere. She even contacts residential units in England, Scotland & Northern Ireland without success.

The film was intended to raise awareness of the many children held on reman in our prisons; an issue to this day

The film ends when Phillip han gs himself in his hospital wing prison cell

It was left to karen to collect his belongings from HMP Swansea. Karen is devastated & wonders why she ever chose social work as a career, though her colleagues advised her she was becomming to personally involved with Philip whilst neglectin other children

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

I have just watched Hope it Rains on YouTube - I don't really remember it when it was originally on. It does feel like a sitcom with a poor setting and I was surprised that it reached two series - Fawty Towers, it wasn't.

Holly Aird really stands out to me as Jace Elliott in each epiosde - she was around 21 when the first series was recorded, and her character was 18. It made me think what Jace could be short for if it is a woman's name - I know that it is short for Jason as a man's name, but was it short for Jessica as a female name? Despite this, the two series does make me want to see more of it due to her character. She looked really exciting when she appeared on screen.
