Places like Beaulieu Motor Museum have them on display on their old petrol station & workshop displays

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

It does give an additional entry free within twelve months of purchaes so that makes each visit £10.50 each; similar to Longleat house & safari park in Warminster Wiltshire uk

              Re: Metal Signs

Metal signs, that brings back memories. The sad part about this, is that many corner shops had some very old signs on the walls. When they closed, the signs were simply thrown away.

Some of the signs I remember are:-

              Spillers Shapes
              Colman's Mustard
              Corona
Who cared about rules when you were young?

I've haven't been to that museum for about twenty odd years. What I remember, it was very good.

                      Re: Metal Signs

We have a small number of metal signs (three) which we bought at "Auto Jumbles" a few years back, all ex-motor trade ones. Michelin Tyres; Castrol Oil and Murco (petrol). At a guess they will have been from the 1960's originally. I used to attend Auto Jumbles (essentially a car boot sale specialising in motoring accessories/parts etc.) regularly, and these signs were often seen for sale, for very little money; however I've not seen many in recent times, they're probably sold privately (Ebay and the like) as there seems to be a few collectors of such memorabilia.

Side note, it's probably 25 years since I visited Beaulieu and even as a youngster I really enjoyed it; lots to see, and not just restricted to motoring, although from memory it was probably better to go in the summer as quite a lot of it was outdoors. I think I'm overdue a return visit.

Lots of little motor museums also worth a look too - the new Lakeland Motor Museum (now at the south end of Lake Windermere after relocating from Holker Hall near Ulverston) is very good; as is the Craven Motorcycle collection at Stockton on Forest near York and also the little museum at Thornton Dale near the North York Moors - all have a selection of these old signs.
