70's Zomble film title

Hiya, this film was mid seventies

In this one the zombies attacking a small mid-west USA town and gradually taking over.

In desperation, near the end , the army go nuclear and use a long range field gun to fire atomic shell that blows up the entire town and surrounding area.

Only then does the scientist rush into the army control room and blurt out that the explosion and fall-out will spread "the zombie spores" and let the outbreak spread over the whole continent..Title please anyone?

Sounds like a Return of the Living Dead spin off, that involved 'zombie rain'!

Would it be THE CRAZIES ? , from 1973 . It was remade last year.

Yaaay! that's the one - cheers very for that - I saw a trailer for the new Crazies recently but never made the connection ( sub-conscious prompt maybe that put the original in my mind? )

the original is a much better film than the remake though.
Very remakes match the original.
