OK this one may be tough as I can't remember much.....
The story is that a man records video clips of himself before he dies which are triggered by some sort of machine (this is pre PCs!) in response to questions asked by his daughter. When she mentions the right subject, the machine plays back an appropriate clip on a TV screen.
The idea is she has to solve some sort of mystery he has set her.
The only other thing I remember is that the clips seem to have been made while her father was in a gym (I remember one where he's on a rowing machine at least).
I would guess it was an 80s film. Any ideas?
