  • Journey to the centre of the earth

Always loved this film and i must of seen it twenty times, whenever it is on the telly i make a point of recording it. i'm referring to the original version with James mason and Pat boone, the story by Jules verne has fascinated me since childhood "a world within a world"..ok so the acting leaves a lot to be desired and some of the scenery and sfx are a bit naff but it has a brilliant spirit of adventure, it was on telly again on saturday and i sat and watched it (again) loving it as much as i did as a kid...can't explain it

The majority of the cavern shots were of course filmed in the studio but some of the shots were filmed at carlsbad caverns in New Mexico

Was this the film where things are "backwards" in the second half or something?

Indeed, in this shot Professor lindenbrook is reading a newspaper and he inadvertently walks straight through the middle of the parade

I went to see it when it was a new release in 1960 when I was 13. A fantastic CinemaScope picture. I thought it was marvellous at the time.

I'm a bit stuck in my ways, i know what i like and nobody will convince me that newer movies are better than old ones, that modern music is better than 60s/70s or that curry is better than fish n chips

It's like how originals are better than cover versions.

Because originals are always the best. These days I would refuse to watch anything that is a make up of a classic original

Def true in the majority of cases but the exception for me would be the recent remakes of the Disney classics with the use of CGI, they really are staggeringly good

                            I wouldn't argue with that.
