Half Forgotten movies of the early eighties

Here are some movies i remember being released in the UK almost 30 years ago! anyone else remember these classics?

I definitely remember watching the Table for Five royal premiere on ITV hosted by Judith Charmers.

Electric Dreams from about 1984.

It was recently released on DVD for the first time so I had to get my copy in.

Xanadu? Ghoulies (a Gremlins rip off), Critters, Hawk The Slayer, Beast baster, Red Sonja, Dragon Slayer, those mostly now obscure Italian made Mad max ripoff/post apocalypse films fand the oligatory obscure anitmations and Star Wars/ (Italian) Conan rip offs from the video libraries.

'Coast To Coast' (1986 - not technically early '80s, but who's counting!)
Made-for-TV British film starring Lenny Henry and John Shea as two Liverpool-based Motown & Soul mobile disco DJs who inadvertently get mixed up in a murder case when a mate of theirs who stole some money-printing plates from a couple of local gangsters (played by Peter Vaughan and George Baker), is murdered by the gangsters. Henry & Shea's characters have to deliver the plates to a contact across the country at an Essex port, whilst being pursed by the gangsters. It's very much a British road movie, heavy on the humour and Motown soundtrack, as the heroes drive across the country, firstly in their converted Bedford ice-cream van and then a Ford Zodiac estate they trade the van in for.

It's a great film, and has never been officially released on video or DVD. The cost of clearing all of the Motown songs probably means it's unlikely to ever get an official release either.

At this time (early 80's) there was a sort of resurgence of film making in the UK after the success of Chariots of fire and Gandhi.
Remember Company of Wolves, Walter, Angel and all those channel 4 funded movies.

I think all this optimism ended with the failure of absolute beginners, Revolution and The Mission.

I love a film called 'Packin' It In'. Its an early 80's film that stars Molly Ringwald in one of her first roles. I have it on VHS from USA but its very rare! Its not a bad film. Bit cheesy but that why I love it. Not many people have heard of it.

Top Secret (1984) - Val Kilmer's first major outing
And stretching to 1992 (sorry!) Mrs 'Arris Goes To Paris - a real feel good TV movie starring Angela Lansbury. Perfect for Christmas but I haven't seen it for years.

Top Secret is a great film i must have seen it over a hundred times and even now nearly every time i watch it i usually spot some background joke i havent noticed before.
