I have fond memories of TV idents from the 80's

I grew up in the Tyne Tees area so was used to seeing this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ame8eReWitI (and some of you from outside of the region might remember it from the start of Supergran ), but my favourites are the old Thames ident http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuN5QiUk00E and the early 80's Central ident http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOkMN...eature=related which still wouldn't look or sound out of place today.

Never liked this one though... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9UUeUaXdcs Blooming terrifying!

I love that one you think is terrifying. Those tyne tees ones always remind me of when I was young. Good old tyne tees! Whatever beacame of Mike Neville and Cathy Secker (not sure if that's the correct spelling of her name)
    Heaven knows I'm miserable now.

The legends Mike Neville and Cathy Secker and not forgetting Bill Steele! I think Mike would have gone on forever given half a chance but he got a blood clot in his leg or something and went off sick from North East tonight.... never to return. He's still alive and kicking though. cathy Secker is still on the local radio here. I once saw her in Newcastle a few years back when she was still on TV. Scary blonde hair. Mutton and lamb spring to mind, miow!

The brass on the ATV one is a bit fierce!

I love TV idents. The London Weekend one was good. It used to be just an L..W.. version of the River Thames, but later, they added the 'T' and the letters became separate. Anglia, with a knight on horseback was also cool.

I had a friend who wasn't keen on the Yorkshire TV 'Y', I think from it flying around at the beggining of 3-2-1 and the very stern dur du du du durrrrrr!

Bill Steele was still doing graveyard shift radio a year or so ago on Century (Real) Radio, not sure if he still is.

Growing up in Kent, I was very familiar with the TVS ident in the early '80s -

                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW3vq...eature=related

Often preceding that "Heeey you....." opening theme tune to 'Number 73' of a Saturday morning.
"We're the Sweeney son, and we haven't had any dinner!"

The Channel 4 'blocks' logo used to be terrifying for me with the flying pieces making up the 4 and the loud fanfare, good thing I overcome it years ago.
A little bit of interesting info, if you listen to a certain Sunday evening program on Radio 2, they use the Thames fanfare as a jingle for the Lost TV Theme.

I remember the Yorkshire TV one the most, but also recall the Tyne Tees and Thames indents. The BBC ones with the globe spinning in stunning graphics (for the time) also linger in my mind. BBC2 had some great channel indents.

The BBC1 yellow and blue globe sticks in my memory. Used to try and draw it to put up in the background when we were playing TV announcers, except we just drew a blue ball with random yellow splodges. Also tried to draw the Tyne Tees one too but it was too complicated for me little brain the way everything was joined up.

                        Re: TV idents

'3-2-1' wasn't the only ITV show to have it's own adapted version of the programme maker's ident. I remember when 'The Morecambe & Wise Show' went to Thames, the Thames tune was given "Here they are now, Morecambe & Wise" lyrics.

Being a fan of retro TV, my DVD collection features many titles which include the opening ident. 'The Sweeney' DVDs feature the Thames ident before every episode, 'Pipkins' features the ATV ident, and 'Auf Wiedersehen Pet' features the early '80s Central one. If you can find it and you're interested, the DVD of the ITV documentary on Brian Clough - 'Clough' features the old London Weekend Television 'ribbon' logo and music to accompany a clip of one of the football shows he guested on as a pundit.

Living in Yorkshire I only ever saw the YTV and Tyne Tees idents.

I do remember though seeing some others and this one from Anglia which seemed to go on forever is particularly memorable!!!

Great clip. It seems there were short idents and longer 'start ups'. I remember when ITV used to come on the morning during the 70s, a blue IBA card was shown and there was a full length orchestral piece to accompany it.
