I think the ITC produced adventure series from the 60s had some stonking good title tunes: Department S, The Baron, The Champions, Strange Report etc...all memorable and catchy.

Into the 70s and tunes like The Sweeney, Black Beauty, Follyfoot, Timeslip, UFO...again, all memorable.

          ANOTHER IS V THE MINISERIES.

          TRULY FRIGHTENING.

SCARED ME WHEN I FIRST SAW IT WHEN IT WAS FIRST SHOWN ON ITV.

STILL FIND IT QUITE CHILLING NOW.

In a similar manner to Darren's reaction to 'V', I used to find the title music to the old US series 'Ghost Story' with Sebastian Cabot as host very eerie, more eerie actually than the tales themselves, though they were okay.

Agreed, themes were all important, and still are, i think the ITC series took a american style to appeal to that market and Lew grade did a good job selling them to the U.S. networks. The prisoner opening credits and music were very good.

No contest for me. John Barry's masterpiece The Persuaders. Tony Curtis' character had the same surname as me, although spelt differently. This tune sends shivers down my spine and I was only about 9 when it was first aired. Also Hunters walk, a programme about a Midlands police station had a very Waltzy tune. The Champions and The Avengers, plus a Man in a suitcase. He was Tyne Daly's Dad you know in Cagney and Lacey, the Man in a suitcase.

Taxi was wonderful and I loved NYPD Blues. Hill street sensational with those snow scenes in New York with opening credits. Quite like St Elsewhere too.
