  • Can anyone help naming this?

I saw this one off suspense/murder/detective tv show in the eighties or early ninetes, it might have been a three or four parter etc. Please excuse my memory as I was a teenager at the time. I don't recall the name of the tv show or any of the actors unfortunately (i wish I did). There was a young detective and an older one trying to find a murderer. This murderer killed someone in a school cloakroom with a scythe and also cut part of a wooden post on a small wooden jetty by a small lake as he knew the victim couldn't swim and would drown and the victim went on it and it collapsed under their weight. I remember it was centered around a house which you could get by boat and it was a bit creepy with wierd noises upstairs. The ending of the show was the woman went into the house and somebody locked her in the attic room and it was set on fire but the detective rescued her and the murderer died in the fire and I remember the there were lots of dolls in the room and they were melting in the fire.

I'm afraid this is all I can remember watching it with my parents in the night but they don't remember it either and it was a bit scary then. I have been trying to find this out for years and is driving me mad. It's weird how these things stick in our minds!

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'd love to watch it again now as I am a lot older.

You're spot on, thanks very much for replying. I've just checked and it's available on dvd in amazon so I will be ordering it today and I'm sure it's going to be scary now as it was then. Those porcelain dolls were very creepy, I still remember them vividly and being scared a s a child.
