  • The Wombles

I've just heard that The Wombles are at Glastonbury this year! How great is that?

This was one of my favourite shows ever and I had soft toys of Orinoco and Tobermory many years ago.

    Their fab hits included :-
    The Wombling Song
    Remember You're A Womble
    Minuetto Allegretto
    Wombling Merry Christmas
    Wombling White Tie And Tails
    sigpic
'Dreams come true if you want them to'

I never really took to the Wombles but I did like the way that their rooms had wallpaper made out of newspapers. I wanted to newspaper my bedroom in the same way. Sadly I can't remember much else about the show.

I picked up the DVD of the original series a while ago. I love it. Bernard Cribbins is just so spot on with his narration. Never did like the people-in-costumes-singing version quite so much though.

Yes! the music was great, so we really give a big cheer to MIKE BATT who I believe was resposible for their songs, he also did "Simon in the land of chalk drawings" too.

          Nice memories from 1973?

The Wombles had one of the best opening themes ever. It's an art that's at least 10 to 15 years dead as a lot of the kids shows started to flounder by having shoddy intros and outros when I was hitting my mid teens.

Here's The Wombles theme in all its glory.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Chris Spedding of "Motorbiking" fame was a Womble.
