  • US civil war cartoon in the 70s

I've been trying to remember the name of a cartoon about an American civil war ghost who used to talk a bit like Jimmy Durante. He would pop out of an old grandfather clock on the strike of 12(?) and go off with the human character for adventures. Maybe around '74? No-one I have asked even remembers the programme which is infuriating. Help please?

I remember the program but not the title, something sticks in my head about the theme tune having the words "spirit of 1766 even" or something like that.
If I remember anymore I will get back to you

Funky PhantomMudsy and dog Boo were ghosts that solved mysteries. An early Scooby Doo type adventure following a group of teenagers and their companions a ghost called Mudsy (who slept in a grandfather clock) and his dog Boo who went to solve mysteries that involved ghosts yet turned out to be someone in a mask !

Though not that successful it did seem to inspire those at Hanna - Barbera to have another go and they produced the hugely successful Scooby Doo show.
