Looking for title of BBC series

Who can remember a series from the end of the eighties about a guy who went bankrupt. The series revolved around him making money to pay off his debt. There was a woman curator who he had to deal with. It started in the pilot episode with him working as a builder or contractor, then something went wrong with financing and he was left with debt. In one episode that I can remember he cut down a patch of pine trees with a friend. They had planted it twenty years before in order to make money off the wood.
I really enjoyed this series but never saw the episodes to the end, the tv station in my country stopped broadcasting the series halfway through. I hope someone can point me in the right direction!

can you remember anyone who starred in it if you can it wil make it much easier to find the show you mean.

There was a series at the end of the '80s called 'Bust' which starred Paul Nicholas as a businessman who went bankrupt. I don't recall the tree storyline though, so it might not be that one.
