  • The Wombles Are On Their Way Back.

The Wombles are a British novelty pop group, featuring musicians dressed as the characters from children's TV show The Wombles, which in turn was based on the children's book series by Elisabeth Beresford. Songwriter and record producer, Mike Batt, wrote the series' theme tune, and went on to perform and produce a number of successful albums and singles as 'The Wombles'. British Hit Singles & Albums jokingly referred to them as the "furriest (and possibly the tidiest) act... are natives of Wimbledon Common, London". In 2011, the band played at The Glastonbury Festival.

It's been four decades since they first appeared on television. Now children’s favourites The Wombles are to make a return – this time in their own feature-length film.
Musician Mike Batt, who put the characters into the charts in the 1970s with a string of novelty songs, such as Remember You’re A Womble and The Wombling Song, is also aiming to bring the cuddly creatures back to TV in a 26-part series.

Not sure if they will appeal as much as they did our generation or if they do maybe, to a slightly younger age than we were.....I mean they were 15 and 16 year olds who were well into them in the 70s.
              Speaking from a 70s perspective.
They've aged better than me....I'm not sure if they've had a Xmas number 1 it was released in 2011...but shows no chart position on Wikki.
