Help finding name of old show..

Hey guys,

Trying to find out name of an old tv show from my youth

I'm guessing it was made in the 80's, but could have been a 70's repeat.

I think I remember it being Australian, but could be wrong.

All I remember of it was think it was a kids show, told in probably 6 episodes.

I remember it being set around a school in the 1800's, again possibly Australia or the American West.

I think I remember a character called Amos, might have been the baddy, oldish guy.

Think the plot was revolving around a gold mine which ended up being under the school.

Couple of kids with help from lady school teacher managed to thwart the bad guys

I was very very young, and can only remember literally australia, gold mine, school, amos

Possibly the mine/school was haunted?

Not much to go on I know!

I've done a character search on imdb for Amos but found nothing...

Are you sure that's it?

ISTR an episode of Paradise with a similar plot.

A crazy man turns up, claiming to be the legal owner of a gold mine. This threatens to close down the school, somehow. (I'm, a little fuzzy on the details) He's crazy, seeing things, and having conversations with his dead mother all the time. The kids try to fake his father's ghost, telling him to leave. At the end some doctors arrive to escort him back to hospital.

I can't tell you if there was an Amos in it at all.
