I remember watching a series in which a schoolmaster (who I think taught Latin) was accused and found guilty of the murder of his wife. He had fled with his lover and was living rough when he was apprehended. It ended with his hanging. Although I think it was about 1980, I can't remember the name of the series and wondered whether anyone can help?

Re: Murder drama c 1980
You're not thinking of Pennies From Heaven, are you?
Not quite as you describe it, but fairly close. He wasn't a teacher, but his lover was. And it wasn't his wife that was murdered. But the bit about going on the run, living rough, and being hanged matches.
Also approximately the right date (1978)Last edited by I. R. Fincham; 11-11-2014, 09:01.

Peter,
What you described sounds like
We, the Accused (1980)
It starred Ian Holm and Angela Down.
I remember being totally enthralled with this when it was first shown on the BBC.
The soundtrack was also memorable and haunting.
