PLEASE! Late 80's early 90's prob. C4 series shot on super-8 man travelling across US

I have been searching all over for this. I even emailed Channel 4 but they couldn't help.

It was a series of films from a guy who had quit his day job (possibly lorry driver) to travel across the States and film his encounters with an eclectic mix of different folk. I vaguely remember piano-based music.

Pretty sure it was Channel 4 and I'm positive it was between 1987 ans 1992. I think it was shot on Super 8, but not sure.

Can anyone PLEASE help with this.
