  • 80's Obscure show, wide boy and head in a box...

    Hello,

    1st Post.

An early to mid 80's TV series, around the time of Anneka & One Summer.

A suited well heeled but rough wide boy (that's still around now) is delivering a box. I turns out to have a head in it....He also gets seduced 80's style by a rich older woman at some point...

    Any ideas ?

Well the head in the box would suggest that, seems heavy for a kids series though.

            Nope...

            Early to Mid Eighties.

Not a childrens program at all. Late obscure slot. Poss Ch4 or Beeb 2.

Lots of black and red, bad 80's graphics.

            Young lead "mockney" male.

Aye, could be on the right track, it was a real "Style over Content" over blown thing in line with all 80's taking itself far to seriously TV. Fake bondage may have been involved too. I reckon I was still at secondary school so must have been early 80's.

The Mockney was suited, and the box may have been in the back of his car. It wasn't that great but I need to know...

                It's not in the league of (for scaryness);

Armchair Thriller - The Black Nun
                The Children of the Stones
                The Changes
                The Moon Stallion

No...I know it wasn't one of those I listed as they were 70's TV kids programs, save from the last one. You've right about CH4 though...

                    Keep thinking...

Over the weekend someone told me they thought it might of had the words "tin", "box" or even "drum" in the title, but that sounds a little close to Gunter Grass for me. I'm getting the feeling it was more 85 to 86....

If it's the programme I'm thinking of it was called 'Dead Head' and starred Dennis Lawson as a petty criminal called Eddy Cass.

He receives a mysterious box that is eventually shown to contain the head of a young woman. This involves Cass in a conspiracy by the British security services to frame him for the crimes of a sadistic serial murderer of prostitutes, who is eventually revealed to be a member of the British royal family.

It was shown over 4 episodes in 1986 and also starred Lindsay Duncan, George Baker and Simon Callow.

It was filmed in a 1930's film noir style and costume with contemporary London settings. It aroused controversy due to sexually explicit scenes (notably one where the hero, imprisoned in a barn, was seduced by a female captor wearing only wellingtons).

It has never been repeated mores the pity.
