early to mid 70's sit com

Ok troops, trying to remember this Sitcom that was on in the 70's

British tv, think the guy owned a pet shop, He had a speech impediment, I thought his name might have been "Ernest tweet" but that drew a blank, thought the actor might have been Bernie Winters

Budgies, I remember something about budgies?

any ideas?

Was it something that had Freddie "Parrot Face" Davies in it? I know he was a comedian (as well as a Professor Ted Wragg lookalike), but I am not sure whether he appeared in any sitcoms.

There was that series starring Adam Faith called Budgie (not to be confused with Fergie's Little Helicopter of the same name that was on CITV in the mid 1990s), but Faith's series was not a sitcom.

When you said "Ernest Tweet", it made me think of the name "Samuel Tweet", and Freddie "Parrot Face" Davies did have a series in the mid 1970s called "The Small World of Samuel Tweet". Whether it was a sitcom, I am not certain, but looking on the IMDB it mentions that it was a "children's comedy series about the misadventures of Samuel Tweet who runs a pet shop in Chumpton Green".

I know that one of Mr Pastry's (Richard Hearne) shows was called "Mr Pastry's Pet Shop", but that was from around 1962, before his shows ended - the Radio Times Guide to TV Comedy mentioned that programme.

The Samuel Tweet character played by Freddie Parrot-Face rings a bell. I am sure I saw some episodes but am not sure if it was shown in the children's programming slot like Pardon my Genie and Robert's Robots, or was meant as an adult show.

The Samuel Tweet programme was on the BBC while Robert's Roberts and Pardon My Genie was on ITV. It was just before I was born, but I have studied old TV listings from newspapers and so I am aware of them in that respect.

Amazing how Freddie "Parrot Face" Davies was sending tweets a good 30 years before Twitter was founded.

Back in 2012, the Drama channel had shown a 1996 episode of Casualty that had Freddie "Parrot Face" Davies in it, called Night Moves - I think it was the final episode of the 1995-1996 series, where he played a comedian - so in other words, he more or less appeared as himself. Being the mid 1990s, there was a Jurassic Park joke made there.

Cue Jodie "Marianne Dwyer out of Brookside" Hanson as their chauffeur, stepping out of a car as if she was modelling for Pretty Polly.
