  • Arnold Braithwaite

Anyone remember a kids drama series from the 70's,whose main character was called Arnold Braithwaite?I can remember Arnold spent a lot of time on a beach and was constantly being followed by a sinister looking bloke in a beret with an an eye patch.Arnold was a long haired teenager.I've looked for info online but turned up nothing.
Any memories or info regarding this programme would be most welcome and prove that I didn't imagine it all

Sorry to reply so late. I only just joined.

I remember the series, but missed the last part for some reason - a family holiday I think. I remember the bad buy was called "Sonny" but sometimes claimed that he was Arnold Braithwaite. He tricked some senile old relative of Arnold (possibly his grandfather) into trusting him and believing they were related.

I also remember that one of the actors was Simon Turner - he played a friend of Arnold Braithwaite. Simon Turner was also a singer (discovered by Jonathan King) and was touted as Britain's answer to David Cassidy.

No, you didn't imagine it, but it was Arold Haithwaite not Braithwaite. This was a haunting, very atmospheric series and has stuck in my mind ever since I watched it in the early seventies. The series was called "The Intruder", based on a childrens novel by John Rowe Townend. The spooky sinister character with the beret and eyepatch was played by Milton Johns, I remember him saying "I'm Arnold Haithwaite" to the old man Ernest Haithwaite (played by Jack Woolgar). The young Arnold was played by James Bate and you can get more info on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Intruder_(novel) and also here http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1055666/
