I automatically thought of 'Stig of the Dump', until you mentioned he had a small nose!
I remember 'Jackanory' used to have stories about a young caveboy called Littlenose, and a quick google came up with these;

Oh wow i remember watching that now

I always thought Vicky was a chick but then later found out she was a guy . When I watched this I think it was on TV-am before good morning britain.
