In 1980 the show was broadcasting it's Worm That Turned series. Set in the then future, at that time the future was set as 2012. In one episode there is a direct framed shot of the front of a Lancia, the topic of the shot is the reg plate.
The reg. is portrayed as three letters, two numbers, two letters. The only thing they got wrong was the three letters first not two. They even got the two age identifier numbers on the plate as 11, correct for a one year old car in 2012. Did they really get there purely by chance 20 years before the format was introduced? Or did someone at the DVLA spot it and decide that looked like a good idea?
