  • What did The Two Ronnies know?

In 1980 the show was broadcasting it's Worm That Turned series. Set in the then future, at that time the future was set as 2012. In one episode there is a direct framed shot of the front of a Lancia, the topic of the shot is the reg plate.
The reg. is portrayed as three letters, two numbers, two letters. The only thing they got wrong was the three letters first not two. They even got the two age identifier numbers on the plate as 11, correct for a one year old car in 2012. Did they really get there purely by chance 20 years before the format was introduced? Or did someone at the DVLA spot it and decide that looked like a good idea?

There are things in the past that coincidentally become reality many years later, either as a direct result or indirect result of what happened earlier. For example, the 1960s series BBC 3 which was made decades before BBC Three started up, and the Carry On films using the name Mr Bean as a comedy character name long before Rowan Atkinson created his character.

I assume that the number plate was like this: (X representing a letter and 1 representing a number): XXX11XX instead of XX11XXX. Of course, until 1983, it was XXX111X, and afterwards it was X111XXX, in the years when X was the registration letter of course, but in this instance, X also represents other years it was in use.

I mentioned this before on other threads about accurate indications of later years was made apparent: Jasper Carrott made excellent observations on a Commercial Breakdown about Charles marrying Camilla and Tony Blair winning a third term as Prime Minister; meanwhile on the other side of the coin a TV programme made in 1990 assumed that Charles would be King by 2020 - err, not quite.
I've everything I need to keep me satisfied
There's nothing you can do to make me change my mind
    I'm having so much fun
    My lucky number's one
    Ah! Oh! Ah! Oh!
