  • Broadsword vs Katana scene (80s UK TV period drama)

    Greetings all.

I have a memory of a specific TV scene - I think it was one of those Sunday afternoon period dramas on BBC2, sort of thing - where East and West meet. To demonstrate the power of Western swords, a huge broadsword is used to crush a shield. The Japanese are unimpressed. They reveal a razor sharp katana and proceed to slice a piece of silk clean in half as it falls through the air. Any ideas what the show was called please?

It might be Shogun, the mini-series 1980.

I read of a scene like that in a film called King Richard and the Crusaders from 1954, can't say it for definite as I haven't seen it myself.
Could it be that and not a Japanese connection?

        Cheers.
