Saturday Night TV in the Late 70s / Early 80s

Was sat at work today thinking about the programmes I used to watch on a Saturday.

Starting at tea time the schedule would have been something like as follows, obviously the programmes would vary on the year and season.

4pm Wrestling on ITV
4.45 Grandstand for the football results BBC1
5.30 The Basil Brush Show or Jimll fix it BBC1
6.00 - 9.00 take your pick from:Generation Game BBC1, Seaside Special BBC1, Juliet Bravo BBC1, Dallas BBC1, Opportunity Knocks
9-10 Starsky and Hutch BBC1, The Professionals ITV
10.30 Match of the Day
11.30 Bed

Am I missing other Saturday night classics from that time period? I'm sure I must be.

I can remember watching Vegas with Robert Urich, he was a private eye I think,and something called Seagull Island. I dont know if it was a film,drama or 2-part series but I'm sure it was late 70's or early 80's

This fresh from the Radio Times 18-24th April 1981 (London edition) - Easter weekend. And I'd totally forgotten that at this time it only had BBC channels in it!

9.10am - Swim
9.35am- Lassie
9.55am - Help! It's The Hair Bear Bunch
10.20am - The Bugs Bunny Easter Special
11.5am - Poco (movie)
12.30pm - Grandstand (inc Football Focus with Bob Wilson, Snooker, Horse Racing, Diving and Show Jumping)
5.10pm - News with Richard Baker
5.25pm - Disney Time (with Felicity Kendal)
6.15pm - You Must Be Joking (new series with Wogan)
6.50pm - Rooster Cogburn (the Duke in a movie)
8.35pm - The Val Doonican Music Show
9.20pm - Dallas
10.10pm - News
10.25pm - Saturday Night at the Mill (with Pam Ayres and The Shadows)
11.15pm - Saturday film - Steptoe and Son (the one where Harold marries a stripper!)

BBC 2 was mainly Snooker and some easter guff but there was an Arena special on Superman (which is probably the reason I still have the issue). Oh and the Star Wars radio adaptation started this week, too.

I was probably too old to be interested in Disney Time by '81 (despite it having 'rear of the year' dad's totty - Felicity Kendall presenting it) but the Steptoe film is a classic.

BBC2 was all plays, arts programmes, though Sat afternoon usually had a good film on.....often Laurel & Hardy, or Abbott & Costello...today 4 June 77 it was "The Family Jewels" with Jerry Lewis (who plays SEVEN different parts...all uncles vying to be guardian to their 7yr-old orphaned rich niece!

Saturday Night at the Movies, now that's starting to ring bells, before the film started was there not some trailer thingy with Saturday Night at the Movies written in blocks being lit up by a spotlight, or is it just in my mind?

Home internationals were great, this being 1977, it will have been when the jocks won and their dismantled the wembley goalposts to take home as souveniers
