Anyone else remember theres? Used to be on BBC1 about 4-ish. Must have been mid to late 80`s. Remember one about something from outerspace that was the shape of a ball and about the same size as a golf ball and it ate it`s way through a cereal box. Some of them were boring but some were good.

Sounds like you're talking about Children's Film Foundation movies and Glitterball, in particular.

I think they're still going as an organisation but, obviously, not in the same way. CFF films take me right back to a time of Saturday morning pictures, Double Deckers and Screen Test (with Michael Rodd - I went off it when Brian Trueman arrived)
